Why does your health matter?

Where you live can have a big impact on your health.

Non-medical factors like where we are born, live, work, and age — known as the non-medical drivers of health — can influence health for better or worse.

In fact, some people face much higher risk of obesity, diabetes, HIV, stroke, certain cancers, and other health conditions.

Addressing the non-medical drivers of health and the resulting cancer burden in important in South Texas and the rest of the state and nation.

What can we do?

The Institute for Health Promotion Research (IHPR) at UT Health San Antonio is leading the charge to address the burden of cancer and disease. We are working on research, communications, and training programs that seek to reveal the drivers of health issues and provide motivation and means for addressing these issues so that all people can live longer, healthier lives right now.

The IHPR’s mission is to investigate causes and solutions to cancer and chronic disease to improve health in South Texas and beyond.
