Nuestras Historias, a combination of resources by Redes En Acción and Susan G. Komen for the Cure, features bilingual stories about Hispanic women who have confronted the challenges of breast cancer. The stories are real Latina breast cancer survivors expressing in their own words how they struggled with and overcame breast cancer. The book is available in all Redes’ regional sites, and has been distributed by Komen’s local and national offices.

Nuestras Historias was released Oct. 12, 2004, at a memorable event involving the media, The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio officials, San Antonio Cancer Institute officials, and many of the women who told their stories in the book. The book has been distributed to Latina breast cancer patients and survivors, primarily through Komen’s local affiliate and the collaborating agencies, and distributors asked readers to read the book and pass it on to maximize its reach. The book still can be accessed online at www.redesenaccion.org, and CD copies can be requested from Redes’ headquarters at the Institute for Health Promotion Research. The book garnered many awards, including: 2005 Bronze Addy Award, American Advertising Federation, San Antonio; 2005 Bronze Quill Awards, International Association of Business Communicators, Award of Excellence for Publications – Special Populations, Award of Merit for Publication Design – Special Populations; 2005 Silver Quill Award of Merit, International Association of Business Communicators; 2005 The Communicator Award of Excellence; 2005 Bronze Award, National Health Information Awards; and 2005 Platinum Award, MarCom Creative Awards
