Cancer and other chronic diseases aren’t equal-opportunity killers, and certain groups are more prone to develop diseases or suffer worse outcomes.
Why? What can be done about it?
The IHPR researches the causes and solutions to the unequal impact of cancer and chronic disease affecting residents – especially Hispanics/Latinos – in San Antonio, South Texas, and the nation to improve everyone’s health while serving as a national model for health promotion research.
The IHPR, founded in 2006 at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, conducts assessment, experimental and policy research; develops community intervention programs; trains students and professionals; and communicates with health agencies, policymakers and the public to improve the health of those at a disadvantage due to race/ethnicity, education, income or access to medical care.
