San Antonio Tobacco Control and Prevention Coalition
SUMMARY
This program, a partnership with the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District, established a self-sustaining coalition whose mission is to create and promote a “smoke-free” San Antonio by significantly reducing and preventing tobacco use through a social norming campaign and increased knowledge and use of accessible, effective resources. The coalition launched in August 2008. Program goals include: Preventing tobacco use among young people; ensuring compliance with state and local tobacco laws with adequate enforcement; increasing cessation among young people; eliminating exposure to secondhand smoke; reducing tobacco use among those with highest burden of tobacco-related health disparities; and developing and maintaining statewide capacity for comprehensive tobacco prevention and control.
